Periodontitis- a common Gum disease associated with other Chronic Diseases

In a recent research experts confirmed that there is a link between gum disease to other chronic inflammatory diseases such as cardio-vascular disease and diabetes. Infection in the mouth can be associated the other health conditions in the body. So it is very important to treat any form of periodontal problems as early as possible. The soonest it is treated the better to get rid of any other chronic illnesses associated with periodontitis. Just like any other disease, periodontitis is related to the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth.

 

Our mouth produces hundreds to thousands of bacteria. Most of them attached to the teeth, gums, tongue and throat. Bacteria dwell in the mouth as a form of plaque. Dentist may recommend oral antibiotics to treat the inflammation and infection as well. Sometimes tooth will be removed if impossible to restore and in order not to spread the infection. Bone grafting is also done to be able to restore the destroyed bone structure and allows re-growth in time. Surgery is recommended to severe cases if all non-surgical treatments are given and periodontitis condition does not improve. Treatment is given in order to prevent more damage to the gingiva and alveolar bone.

 

Periodontal disease is a common infection in the mouth but it can be prevented. How to do it?
